The perforations allow adhesive direct access to intact skin either side of the wound. This creates an anchoring between skin and closure, maintaining the flexibility of the peripheral skin, while securing the integrity of closure. The adhesive diffuses into the edges of the perforations, reinforcing the structure and strength of the closures. While the protective membrane prevents the adhesive from soaking the entire closure, and preserves its flexibility.
